The articles I came across when searching “Transport in Amsterdam”

So after a group discussion, we quite quickly decided that we were all interested in exploring the theme of “transport” in Amsterdam, perhaps touching upon the sustainability of the City. Before this agreement we did question whether to choose something more distinguishing, that being drug use or prostitution. But we felt that transport would be more relevant at this moment of time, and we came to the understanding that researching within this field would be more accessible in terms of finding the appropriate participants.

So, the topic of “transport” is very broad and therefore we all individually researched the topic in order to pin point specific aspects within the matter of transport. I personally looked at 3 articles, one being an evaluation of policy measures in Amsterdam and looking at how the city’s urban developments can be regarded as relatively sustainable (Clercq & Bertolini, 2003). Similarly, the second article focused on Amsterdams ambition to develop as a sustainable European metropolis and the flows of energy and water and resources within the urban environment (Van Der Hoek, Et al, 2017). Plus the third article I came across looked at Amsterdam’s advanced modelling system for transport remissions in relation to the atmospheric matter and the air quality (Karamchandi, 2010). I think that these particular articles, are relevant in the sense that Amsterdam is motivated in being sustainable, yet I think that they more so move away from the topic of transport and more towards the policy and scientific path. I will further explore the topic of transport but more in the direction of how society functions and why the population has conformed to the public transport and the popular usage of bicycles as a mode of transport.

My First Blog Post: Why did I pick this Module ???

My name is Faye Doyle and to tell you the truth, I personally chose this particular module based on the fact that it involved a trip to Amsterdam. Since I would admit that I am someone who loves to travel and so far I have visited Amsterdam 4 times, soon to be 5, yet this trip will be a lot different to my past trips to the city; as the purpose for all my past holidays to the “dam” have been motivated by the festival or music event taking place at that time. So in that instance, I am looking forward to having a different approach to visiting the place, which I hope and believe I will get a more in-depth observation of the busy City, as I want to take on the role of an observer rather than a tourist. Also I expect to be more questionable about the culture this time round, as well as expecting to notice and acknowledge aspects of the City I hadn’t the previous times I have been.

This is the first post on my new blog. I have started this blog in order to trace the steps of my research right from the get go. I think that by doing this, I will be able to look back on my thinking and planning and therefore get a clearer vision on how my research came about in the first place.
